I’ve always wanted to be a writer, but my path to full-time freelancing was anything but straight.
Like many millennials who started their careers in a recession, I struggled at first to find my way. At the time I entered the job market, print journalism was in the midst of a massive digital shift and writing jobs were few and far between.
So I directed my attention toward non-profit work, working as a grassroots organizer for a reproductive rights organization.
Three years at that job led me to another opportunity at a community health center working as a health insurance navigator. In that role, I connected uninsured patients with resources and programs to help them gain access to health care.
When I became a mom, I found my way back to writing as a way to cope with my postpartum mental health struggles.
My work these days mostly focuses on health and parenting content, but I’ve also written about politics, science, nutrition, fitness and personal finance.
I also enjoy helping businesses update their websites, draft newsletters, write blogposts and reach wider audiences on social media. I’m always up for a challenge and I love learning new things.
When not writing, you can usually find me reading romance novels or thrillers, watching (too much?) reality TV or herding my three children out the door.
